John has been duning since 1990.  Like many of us, John is very passionate about sand duning. As owner of Accel Import Motor repair John's background in engine knowledge runs deep, especially computer controlled injection and ignition systems.  John's experience in motor repair and tuning has spawned new parts and technology, which eventually grew into a healthy business providing racing parts, tips, and tuning for the hottest motor on the market for sandrails, the Subaru boxer engine.

If you have ever talked to a motor builder you have likely experienced the code of silence they practice.  They always seem to keep critical information to themselves, thinking it will help build their business, forcing you to have them build your motor.  We happen to believe this creates animosities. At Outback we will help you build your Subaru engine by sharing our knowledge for building engines up to 500HP, telling you the secrets others won't.  So if you want to do the work we'll provide the parts and information you need to build a reliable motor for the least amount of money.  If you buy all your parts from Outback you can be assured the all the parts will work together, and be reliable.  Our knowledge of motor parts and setup can save you thousands of dollars, and weeks of time.

John has 6 kids (from the same woman!) and brings the family out to the sand often.  You may have seen John at the drags at Pad 1 on Gecko road at Glamis.  When you see his lime green Outback machine don't blink, he's one of the fastest cars there, he flies by very quick.  He's always pushing the limits.

John's passion in the sand has produced some very interesting technology for Subaru motors.  If you want to go fast, John can help with great advice and parts to build a reliable power plant.  And if you don't want to do the building, John can build one for you, over 600HP if you'd like!

The beauty of the Subaru engine is you can have a light weight car and loads of horsepower.  If you watch John at the drags with his Subaru "GREEN MACHINE" race V8 powered cars you won't see many beat him, if any.  Just to stay close most V8 owners have to put $40K into their V8's to generate enough power to be in the same ET class as John's Subaru motor.  Bottom line, it's all about weight.  There's no substitute for being lean and mean when jumping, racing, spinning, dicing, or simply duning.  If you want the best sandcar motor just call Outback and let us explain why Subaru is the ideal setup.

Why does Outback focus only on Subaru motors?  Subaru power plants are the ideal engine for the sand.  To build a good handling car it's all about power to weight ratio.  Good handling also has a lot to do with center of gravity.  Subaru motors keep their weight very low and short (like a VW) so the weight distribution on rear engine cars can be closer to ideal, far closer than a V8.  Yeah, V8's may have more torque but the downside is all the additional weight, not to mention it's taller weight, and longer weight than a Subaru.  The taller and longer weight mass of a V8 naturally has more leverage against the front end of the car, something the laws of physics dictates.  If you have any experience driving sandcars you know the advantages of a car that weighs less, evident even when you have less people riding in your car.  Less weight naturally handles better, is more nimble to dance across the dunes, and results in less risk of chassis damage with you eventually hit that witches eye you fail to see in the dunes.  The lower the center of gravity you have the flatter your car will corner also.  This allows you to pitch the car into 4 wheel drifts like a real race car driver.  Lighter cars handle more like your wearing the machine instead of fighting the machine.
